This project aims to explore the Gentrification of cities and its impact on the community through the layering of data. The inner Sydney suburb of Chippendale was chosen as my research area as it is a worthy example of recent gentrification in Sydney.
After researching about Chippendale’s rich history, I walked the streets mapping out and contrasting heritage buildings (pre 1920’s) with Contemporary buildings (post 1920’s) in hope of showing the physical traces of gentrification. Along with this method, I also took photographs and used the technique of multiple exposure to juxtapose the older buildings with the new.
